With 1 km of golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and two freshwater rivers flowing into the sea, the place captivates at first sight. Beyond its beauty, it houses the Prison Museum (MUCA) — the former Cândido Mendes Prison, an important chapter in Brazil’s history. Trail and Route • Starting point: Vila do Abraão • Trail: T14 (7 km, one way) • Duration: about 4 hours of easy walking round trip • Terrain: open, well-marked trail surrounded by native vegetation • Difficulty: low (accessible for those with moderate physical fitness) Along the way, our local guides share island curiosities, viewpoints, and stories that make the journey as interesting as the destination. Living History Dois Rios is much more than a natural paradise. Until 1993, it was home to the Cândido Mendes Prison — a place full of intense stories and the birthplace of one of Brazil’s most notorious criminal organizations. Today, the site houses the Prison Museum (MUCA), where visitors can explore cells, ruins, and exhibits revealing life and events from that period. Experience at the Site Besides swimming in the sea and rivers, you can enjoy local cuisine at the traditional Restaurante Dona Tereza. Our guides adjust the time spent to ensure you enjoy every moment safely, as overnight stays on the beach are not allowed. Cancellation, Rescheduling & Safety Policy – Discover Ilha Grande 1. Cancellations with a minimum of 7 days’ notice • Cancellations requested at least 7 days before the scheduled date will receive a full refund (100%) of the amount paid. 2. Cancellations with less than 7 days’ notice • Cancellations requested within 7 days of the scheduled tour date will receive a 75% refund, with 25% retained to cover operational costs and confirmed reservations. 3. Rescheduling • Tours can be rescheduled at no additional cost, as long as the request is made at least 7 days in advance. • Rescheduling requests made less than 7 days in advance are subject to availability and may incur an administrative fee. 4. No Show • If the customer does not show up on the scheduled date and time, no refund will be issued. 5. Weather and Safety Conditions Discover Ilha Grande prioritizes the safety and comfort of all passengers. All tours are subject to change or cancellation if sea or weather conditions are not favorable. Before each departure, our team performs a detailed assessment, taking into account weather forecasts, wind direction and intensity, wave height, and other factors that could compromise safe navigation. If, for any reason, conditions are deemed unsafe, the tour may be rescheduled to another available date or the amount paid will be refunded in full.
